Oishii

Niche Cannabis based in New Jersey, just placed third in the gas category at The Billy’s with their standout strain Oishii. Meaning “delicious” in Japanese, this strain is more than deserving of its moniker. It has all the qualities I look for in award-winning flower, and this Z-leaning, flavor-packed strain does not disappoint. 

As a preliminary judge for The Billy Awards in New York City this year, I sampled more than 45 strains and made it a point to smell all the entries. This one stood out from the pack and was immediately vaulted to near the top of my list. I knew it was something special when I opened the jar, and apparently, so did the official judges. 

Oishii, bred by Archive Seed Bank, is a cross of Flavor Pack #7 and Moonbow 112 F2. What’s distinct about this strain is the symphony of complex Zkittlez candy smell on the nose, both in the jar and when broken up. The nose translates almost perfectly to a potent and, more importantly, flavorful smoking experience. This fruity, diesel-soaked marriage of strains includes heavy hitters like Hollywood Pure Kush, Z and Dosidos in its lineage. 

This strain is more potent than most candy rainbow dreams. I used gloves to handle it because the buds were so resinous. The inhale was clean, and the smoke was silky. I didn’t cough once. Taste-wise, the Oishii really retained its Moonbow parent profile and was delicious the whole way through. The Z mouth coat was instant, accompanied by hints of fruit, citrus and Kush on the backend. Midway through the joint, things got even gassier. Enjoying all of these elements simultaneously was a heavy-hitting, full-flavor experience. 

Effects-wise, the impact was immediate; the high draped over me like a weighted blanket, while still offering a mood-boosting, creative buzz. 

If you asked me to capture the feeling of happy in a strain, Oishii is it for me. It’s loud. It’s sticky. It’s unforgettable. This is the kind of flower that leaves a lasting impression long after the jar is closed. It’s very Z-forward on the nose. The Kush surprises you because it comes through while smoking as well as in the afterglow.

When you put solid genetics into experienced hands, this is what you get! Since the first time I tried Niche, I have been a fan. One thing I appreciate about them is their approach to strain selection. They’re riding the wave of some of my favorite cultivars out right now.
