Bushy Beard Cultivation’s cut of Sub Zero, a feminized cross of Superboof and Oreoz, was originally sourced from a friend of the team out in Michigan. Trusting their friend in the Mitten’s word, Vermont’s Cannabis scene has been enjoying the benefits of that generosity ever since.
Running organic, no-till beds, some with 10-plus cycles under their belt, the team effort at Bushy Beard is really dialing this cultivar in. They’ve taken their potency from 20.7% THC and 24.9% total available cannabinoids in previous production runs to pushing just shy of 28% THC and 33.5% TAC in the last few batches.
Bushy Beard’s Sub Zero is every bit as visually appealing as the best offerings in New England. The buds boast varying shades of faded green and deep, almost blueish hues. The pale orange hairs provide a little contrast, and the tips of the sugar leaves and inside the buds reveal some deep purples to fill out the palette, all slightly obscured by the shine of whitish gold resin rails.
The aroma straight out of the jar is earthy, mostly pine and forest floor with a doughy sweetness, some purple floral notes and hints of citrus (courtesy of the Superboof). The flowers I sampled were dense in both mass and resin coverage. While they can be broken down by hand with relative ease and decent smokability, your trusty grinder will make the entirety of the experience more pleasant.
The smoke is a rich blend of spicy pine supported by linalool and citrus. Each pull is expansive and satisfying. The effects come on quickly, uplifting your mind with a spontaneous, creative energy. The body high is relaxing but willing to roll with the whims of your inspirations. Whether you’re hitting the trails to explore the seasonal beauty of the Northeast Kingdom or just enjoying a meal in the company of friends and loved ones, Bushy Beard’s Sub Zero is a fantastic companion.
