Night Nurse

from Bald Peak Farm

Bald Peak is soaring high above the competition among CBD strains with Night Nurse testing at 9% THC and 18% CBD.

Cannabis flower can be a well-founded medicinal option for treating a range of different ailments, and CBD flower in particular seems to be especially effective for alleviating pain, inflammation and even mental health conditions such as anxiety. In Oregon, there’s perhaps no grower or breeder putting in as much effort to bring high-quality CBD-heavy strains to market as Derek Rayhorn, Director of Cultivation at Bald Peak Farm.

As mentioned in our September 2025 Tannins and Terpenes issue, Derek has bred more than 20 new strains during his time with Bald Peak, with six of his curated selections being 1:1 cultivars possessing as much CBD as THC in their composition.

Night Nurse, one such in-house breeding project, has taken three years to create, select, dial in and finally release to the public. Of note, even the plant’s parents — Dragon Heart CBD and Nine Pound Guava — were the result of Derek’s genetic work prior to being crossed together, so the variety is very much a labor of love multiple generations in the making.

Cannabis consumers might be hard pressed to differentiate Night Nurse from any other THC-heavy strain present in retail stores given that it has much more bag appeal than the average CBD flower. The buds themselves are a gorgeous verdant green shade with shimmering resin glands and burnt orange pistil fibers covering the outer surface.

As for the scent, the flower has a berry-forward fruit aroma with a lush, succulent quality that accentuates the expression. There’s some light earthiness on the back end that’s reminiscent of jasmine-spiked green tea, but the entire profile has this permeating sweetness that’s quite sensorially satisfying. Breaking down the buds enhances the fruity scents and releases additional notes of licorice, cedar and camphor that increase the overall sharpness of the presentation.

The flavor translates well from the fragrance, with a sweet, cedary taste accompanied by touches of tart blueberry. A bristly texture manifests on the tongue throughout consumption, initially tickling the taste buds before finishing with a cooling, almost menthol-like exhale. As advertised, the flower smokes similarly to a THC-heavy strain with an easy inhale and an aftertaste that leaves no undue bitterness on the palate.

In terms of effect, Night Nurse produces an enjoyable, calming and not overly intoxicating feeling that seems to just seep through the brain and into the physical form. It generates a diffuse sensation of somatic body relief coupled with an easing of muscle tension. It can be hard to beat the efficacy of a well-grown 1:1 or otherwise CBD-heavy cultivar given the inclusion of alternate cannabinoids in the flower’s formulation.

Given Cannabis’ roots as a palliative remedy, it’s surprising there’s not more representation for CBD on store shelves. In that way, Bald Peak is soaring high above the competition when it comes to CBD production. Its focus on bringing medicinal products to the market provides a viable avenue for wellness outside of traditional THC flower, over-the-counter medications and other pharmaceutical products. For consumers looking for more wellness-centric options to alleviate symptoms effectively, CBD-focused strains like Night Nurse from Bald Peak are a stellar choice.
