Puffco: A Link to the Past

Puffco unveiled their newest addition to the Peak Pro line, the Puffco Link.

Recently, Puffco embarked on a multi-city, cross-country tour to unveil their newest addition to the Peak Pro line, the Puffco Link.

For use exclusively with the Pro and 3DXL atomizers, it’s a tether system that will heat the chamber without having to be screwed into the device. Now you can drop your atomizer into just about any rig in your collection and use the Pro base as a battery to power it up. While other iterations of this type of e-bucket exist, Link is fully designed and fitted to be part of the Puffco ecosystem, and fans of the brand are hopping on board.

We had the chance to try out the Link, as well as field-test it at a few events, and we can honestly say we had a lot of fun. Read on for a list of reasons why someone would or wouldn’t want to adopt this new attachment into their Puffco family.

Much of the criticism about e-rigs not producing a “real dab” stems from the use of quartz, or the way the temperature rises and falls, not the choice of glass. So we’re not going to get into that and instead focus on portability, ease of use, and fun. In this reporter’s opinion, there are two types of people who benefit most from picking up the Link: those who are avid users of the Puffco Peak Pro, and those who like to travel with their rig setups.

Full disclosure, I keep a pretty visually boring dab rig so that I can travel with it worry-free, but I also have custom light settings in the Puffco app, so I‘m approaching this from both sides.

On the Go

Let’s start with portability. Again, this is something that is maxxed out most by those who use the Puffco enough to have the app at the ready. A base tethered to another thing in your hand might seem like a lot to have out on the scene, but pretty quickly into this test, we found our first bit of tech. If you keep the base in your backpack and use your phone to start the cycle, you can have your rig out at the ready like a Ghostbuster.

For those who prefer to keep their phone in their pocket, Puffco’s community moderator @properpadge revealed that you can take a carb cap, a glass joint tip, or just about anything that fits in the connector to make the Link into a makeshift rosin pipe.

Ease of Use

Even though it takes a minute for your Puffco to update so you can use the Link, it’s mostly an intuitive product after that. As @holyopal noticed, with this system, your Puffco base stays free of gunk, instead collecting in the atomizer and joint, which is much easier to keep clean when traveling. Watching the event at Portland’s Grey Area, we saw a few people comment on how this was another method of having the public hit an over-the-top glass creation, but without as much time between dabs. One criticism users seem to have is about the cord knocking over their setup. While it’s probably not an issue for heavier pieces, we can see how it might be a hazard for small or delicate setups, so be aware if you’re in a crowded room.

But is it Fun?

When it comes to the Puffco Link, we definitely had more fun using it out in public. After all, the Link really seems to open up the possibilities of having an outdoor sesh and gives you something different than a Puffco glass top for your smoke chamber.

Moving forward, we’ll expect to quickly see the community producing glass mods to swap out the metal elbow joint and provide new silhouettes, something that falls in line with what Puffco’s Director of Events, Kevin Jones, told Leaf about the Link: “It’s an amazing way to connect new and old technology and bring the best experience to life.”
