As the clouds begin to part in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, there’s one we’ll be chasing through the sunshine: Cloud 9. We even found it in flower form so that you can keep a little in your pocket on a dull day.
Cloud 9 Farms is a family-operated facility in the Kelso/Longview area of the Evergreen State, where they pump out blissful buds like this Cold Snap, a cross of Biscotti and The Menthol first bred by the folks at Wyeast Farms.
These tightly tangled nugs greet you with notes of baked oats, blueberry, vanilla and something more sensational: A tantalizingly savory tang springs up upon cracking the bud. This note quickly dissipates into an earthy, warm clove-and-mint nuance — more feeling than flavor, likely a trait taken from The Menthol’s self-explanatory style.
The flavor here is big on Biscotti, with The Menthol nearly melting away until it blasts through the back end of the hit for a brief second. A filo crust finish sits on our palates, like the aftertaste and mouthfeel that a flaky pastry like baklava brings. It’s lipid, lingering and the kind of taste you crave when in need of comfort.
This smoke is smooth, setting in slowly and serenely until you realize that your shoulders are 6 inches lower and that a silver lining attitude is sweeping over your conscience. We found the effects to offer heavy physical relief, with a short period of mental melt. But the weight was quick to lift.
Light on our feet and minds once again, we can see clearly now why this brand is called Cloud 9.
