Spannabis Sets Sights On New Permanent Home

One of the world's premier Cannabis events, held in Barcelona since 2002, is changing locations.

It looks like next year, Spannabis attendees will be making reservations for the Guggenheim instead of La Sagrada Familia. An email sent out to exhibitors announced that Spannabis, the worldwide Cannabis convention, will be ending its more than 20-year residency in Barcelona. Leaf has obtained a copy of the email, and while details on the “why” are sparse, the team has confirmed the event will be relocating after the forthcoming exhibition.

2025 will mark the final year for the event at Fira de Cornella before it makes the 607-mile move north to the city of Bilbao. Since 2002, the event has been held just outside the main part of Barcelona in the southwestern municipality of Cornella de Llobregat. Last year, Spannabis launched its first Bilbao event as a secondary celebration, and over 5,000 people attended the inaugural event.

In the email, Spannabis cites the reason for the move as one of necessity. It would seem that there are imminent plans to demolish the event center. The email states organizers “do not have access to any facilities in Barcelona or its surroundings that meet the necessary space requirements to hold our event.” Though there’s no official word of this on the center’s website or in local press, we did find plenty of talk about how hotel chain Travelodge just completed a 138-room hotel nearby.

Already, the response online from industry professionals and longtime attendees has been that this year will have a bittersweet feel as they pack their bags to return to Barcelona, but they are ready to adapt with the change. The popular competition Ego Clash has already announced that they are trying to start a Berlin version for 2026.

We’ve reached out to both Spannabis’ press team and Fira de Cornella’s office, but as of the publication of this article, we have not received an official statement. We will update this story as more information comes in.

The Leaf did receive Spannabis’ official press release detailing the festival’s upcoming location change.
