This year has seen the triumphant launch of Dr. Dabber’s GO, the long-awaited update to the Switch2. This model is about half the size of the Switch 2 and uses a quartz, sapphire, or titanium bucket to deliver nuanced levels of flavor from a small e-rig. But how does it perform?
We took it out for two weeks of stress testing, and we can say there are plenty of reasons you’ll want to check out the Switch GO.
Let’s start with the out-of-the-box experience. Setup is super easy, and you’ll be ready to rock in seconds. If you’re the kind of person who can’t wait for a water source and runs your e-rigs dry, this hit that first test and shot past our expectations.
You know that moment when you’re handing someone a dry e-rig, and you have to warn them before they go in? A big thing about the Switch GO is nobody seemed to need that trigger warning. Instead, their faces showed a hint of surprise before finishing the rest of their dab.
Another thing you’ll notice pretty quickly is the chamber’s insane depth. This thing is so deep I started calling it the terp well. Long swabs are recommended to keep from getting sticky fingers, but the bottom line is this thing can handle some pretty big glob sizes without spilling.
We went in session after session, and with regular chamber swabbing, we only had to give it a single wipe-down with a paper towel to keep everything ready. Plus, the joystick remained pretty resistant to sticking from all the reclaim. This was a huge feather in the Switch GO’s cap. To kill over a quarter ounce of hash and only need a forehead wipe meant this device is ready to handle business.
Vapor production is often a big part of what people want in an e-rig experience, and we noticed how the flavors at low temps seem to pull some of the harder-to-express notes through while still serving clouds.
The place where we found difficulty was concerning battery life. Granted, this was a stress test, but we got around 15-20 cycles per charge, and if you’re heating it twice to pass around the session, that could be as low as 10 times around the circle. Not the worst problem in the world since the unit also allows for pass-through charging, but it’s smart to keep a power bank around for when you’re sharing with friends.
If you’re used to tossing your rig in a bag or the backseat of your car, spillage is a small concern. The unit has a rounded rectangular base so it can tip onto its side on the go. Dr. Dabber gives you a perfect little plug for taking the unit out of the house, but it’s easy to miss and easier to lose. We ended up wishing it was on a tether to make it harder to miss.
The app is where things take a wonderful turn towards the nerdy. Like the Switch 2, using the controls via your phone’s Bluetooth connection lets you adjust and fine-tune the heating and cooling process, as well as vapor level. Using the sapphire insert, this was especially helpful for dialing in your temps and it worked great for smoking full melt and traditional hash as well but for most people, the four variable heat settings the unit starts with will be more than enough to take off into the clouds.
In the end, the Switch GO shined for its ability to serve as a travel-ready road dog, providing big clouds, bold flavor, and high performance.
