Dragonfruit Full Melt and Cold Cure Rosin

from Happy Heads Hash

It’s the kind of smell that makes you do a double-take and inhale deeply just to make sure you’re not imagining things.

For December’s “Concentrate of the Month,” we’re testing out two exceptional versions of Dragonfruit from Happy Heads Hash in Maine. This strain is a cut by Happy Heads, born from a hybrid of (Forbidden Fruit x GMO) x Forbidden Fruit and Platinum Kush Mints x Platinum Punch. Originally bred by First Class Genetics and reversed as a feminized cultivar, this particular phenotype was chosen for its exquisite flavor profile and reduced flowering time — a win-win for both the cultivator and the connoisseur. These guys have pulled off that rare feat with their unique offerings, presenting both a full melt and a cold cure rosin that are distinctive, potent and memorable. Each of the offerings brings its own charm to the table.

Cracking open the jar of the 73-159u cold cure rosin, I was immediately hit with a bright, acidic pear aroma that resembled a sugar-sweetened windshield wiper fluid. It’s that sharp, sweet, slightly synthetic note that somehow doesn’t repel but intrigues. It’s the kind of smell that makes you do a double-take, lean back in and inhale deeply just to make sure you’re not imagining things. It’s oddly intoxicating — a bright, invigorating scent that seems both familiar and entirely new.

The cold cure rosin boasted a pristine whip consistency, gleaming with a light banana-white hue. Under the light, it shimmered ever so slightly, beckoning me to dive in and enjoy. The full melt, on the other hand, was a bright white sandy collection of heads that promised purity and potency.

I went with the cold cure first, tasting every last terp off the Toro Vortex Slurper. The first inhale wrapped my palate in a bright, tropical, lychee and stone fruit embrace that echoed the unusual aroma. But the exhale flipped the script on my nose, introducing a tart, almost sour pear note that balanced the initial sweetness perfectly. It reminded me of savoring a piece of exotic candy that unveils different layers of flavor with each moment.

The full melt took this experience up a notch. The flavors seemed brighter, more concentrated and strikingly pronounced. Kiwi, melon and pear shone through as if someone turned up the saturation on all the sensory inputs. The sweet and sour dance was still there but delivered with an intensity that was both exciting and deeply satisfying with even more immediate stoned potency.

While more immediate with the melt, the high felt consistent across the hash mediums. Moments after indulging, I felt a pleasant, uplifting sensation starting at the crown of my head and gently cascading through my body. My mind felt energized and creatively charged, the kind of state where ideas flow effortlessly and inspiration feels just a thought away. Physically, there was a lightness, a juiced-up buzz that made it perfect for daytime sessions or when you need that extra spark to fuel your projects.

It’s clear that Happy Heads is committed to making incredible and unique concentrates for patients. Their selection process for phenotypes isn’t just about yield or potency — it’s about capturing a flavor, an essence, that resonates on a deeper level. This Dragonfruit offering is a testament to that philosophy and shows the impressive results in its output.
