For our Concentrates and Extracts Issue, Eugreen’s Soul Train was a natural fit for both the strain and concentrate of the month, so we combined the features to shine a light on both their living soil flower and single-source solventless rosin.
Like any train passing by in the middle of the night, this flower is loud and the profile goes on for longer than you’d ever think possible. Cracking the lid saturates the air with the pungent scent of good herb. Weed aficionados will immediately start to drool and non-smokers will swear that the mason jar under the bed has at least a pound in it.
Eugreen owner, Justin Howard, took us back to the inception of bringing Soul Train into their garden. “We were really into the White Truffle and the terps it was putting off and the taste that it had so we wanted to move quickly on getting the crosses going. We have certain breeders that we trust and the Jealousy in this cross caught our eye. We knew we had the right genetics here to work out well for us and it over delivered,” said Howard.
For the record, Soul Train is Candy Rain x Jealousy crossed with White truffle. If you’re unfamiliar with either of these popular, but exotic, strains– picture a competition to award the finest gelato and fresh lemon is in the lead. Everyone’s taking a break to roast a little coffee, and for whatever reason the judges are taking notes with oversized permanent markers. In other words, this is the dream combo of some of our favorite flavors and the dials are set to perfectly express and accentuate the best of each.
Soul Train outperforms most other herb on all fronts. This flower has incredible bag appeal, resinous and dark purple with thumb-length buds that fit like puzzle pieces in the jar. Twisting the lid releases an aroma like a pent-up genie, creamy and dessert-forward with equal amounts of funk. Notes of Amplified gas balance the whole affair and double down on the sweet scents emanating from each nug. Dense vapor catches the wind and, carrying through with our train motif, travels far.
The hash matches the intensity of the flower, exhibiting all of those sweet-halitosis-leaning aromas of the White Truffle, but with less funk. Like fine butter, the extract is slightly flakey at first, but has a spreadable consistency that is easy to work with. Each dab melts into a golden puddle and at low temps delivers such an expansive and pungent hit it made me question the batteries in my smoke detector.
The effects of Soul Train are heavy, instant, and cut through the noise of the day in a way that makes it an ideal fit for clearing bad energy, or just keeping you in tune and on time – a direct route to a mellow day, or at least a trip to the dispo to grab another jar of Eugreen.
