Now I am going to say this before I begin, because if you are not a fan of beets, you may have not tried them in the correct combination. Xocotl, pronounced (zo-koh-toll), has some of the best-priced, fresh-squeezed juices in all of Portland. Starting at just $5.99, you can get one of four flavorful options. We sat down and tried each of their offerings and landed on this drink – relishing its roundness of flavor. The beets bring in an earthy initial flavor, followed by graces of sweet pineapple throughout, and topped off with a tart-but-sweet lime finish.

Freshly-squeezed juice is about the closest thing you can get in the drink world when comparing it to the solventless hash process. When looking for an edible that is both effective and tasty, solventless might be my favorite – especially when they have real fruit juice and no aftertaste or burn. Happy Cabbage Solventless Blox come in 100mg packages and are easy to break down into smaller serving sizes with pre-cut dosing squares, as well as coming in a number of flavors. Having tried all three, I can easily say the POG is my favorite, absorbing each fruit slightly as they graze my taste buds with rich golden pineapple, ripe California oranges and bright pink guava.
The Pairing
While intermittently grazing on more Hash Blox between drinks, I cannot help but put my feet up outside and enjoy the sunshine – sipping my juice and slowly slipping into what feels like a 1980’s commercial. A perfect pairing for savoring the last of those long summer nights as we fade into fall.
