What first sparked your interest with Cannabis in general?
I smoked it a few times at the age of 12 and liked it, but then stopped for a little because I was young. I started smoking much more in high school, where I fell in love with the biology of the plant and its medicinal properties. I had a strong curiosity, and needed to study it and know why it made me feel the way it did.
How do you plan on bringing your upcoming degree in Biology to the Cannabis world?
I definitely want to dabble into Cannabis tissue culture, and help get some new strains out on the market. I am a big fan of 1:1 products, so I want to focus on those if possible because they help clear my mind during strong anxiety sessions.
What emerging trends do you see in the Maryland Cannabis market?
I see a big increase in the amount of concentrates on the market, from cartridges to dabs. I’m a big concentrate/indica girl! I seek out strains with high ocimene due to the effects – so anytime I see that on a terpene profile, I try to stock up.
What is your best approach with new Cannabis patients?
I try to figure out why they are interested in using Cannabis as medicine and what they are looking to treat physically or emotionally. A lot of people can’t smoke, so I recommend topicals for pain because I use them myself for cramps and it’s magical. My grandma even uses it for her arthritis now – after I convinced her to get her medical card. My family used to be against using Cannabis, but now we all smoke a joint together during Christmas.
Do you have a favorite way to consume Cannabis? Favorite strain?
I started out smoking flower, and then found myself smoking 15 Backwoods in one day. I was spending a ton of money and coughing up black stuff, so I knew it was time to switch to concentrate. I could hit a dab and be good for a while, even though now I dab a lot more than that. I really like Evermore Cold Cured Live Rosin and I was a big fan of the gLeaf Aqua Tech dabs.
What is the culture like working at Starbuds?
This is the only dispensary I have ever worked in, and I know we care about helping the patients more than anything. Finding the products that help patients out the most is our main focus. We’re like a family here.
