Named Best Budtender in the Inlander’s 2023 Best Of the Inland Northwest Readers Poll, Mervin Simmons is a standout budtender and manager at Cinder’s downtown Spokane location. It is here that he has spent the last four years enjoying everything about the industry.
Before this journey, he enjoyed 10 years as an automotive service advisor, where he learned not only the ever-changing intricacies of the auto industry, but also how to provide the level of customer service that keeps clients coming back. He said that this experience really helped him quickly learn the barrage of constantly changing stock-keeping units in the Cannabis industry and how to be able to provide unwavering customer service to people from all walks of life. Although he enjoyed the automotive industry, quality of life is the most important thing for him, and that starts with simplicity.
Mervin lives just one block away from Cinder, where he has a view of the store from his balcony. He opens the downtown Cinder almost every day and enjoys the local area’s great selection of breweries, restaurants, historical buildings and abundant artwork.
“The best part of being on the Cinder team is watching everybody strive to be the best at their job,” Mervin said. “I am watching my team listen to what the customer wants and making an educated recommendation instead of just pushing products on customers.”
He’s a flower guy, first and foremost, and he’s even working with local manufacturers on an upcoming product he created called The Limit. It’s a 28-gram cannagar he’s been working on for a couple of years that mixes our local purchase limit of Cannabis flower while providing an exceptional smoking experience.
“It smokes perfectly from end to end and is rolled in a way that preserves the flower’s flavor,” Mervin said.
