Shop Review: The Bake Shop

“Being only 15 minutes away from the Gorge Amphitheatre, we get to experience the concert's energy firsthand.”

Next time you are heading out to a killer show or festival at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, do yourself a favor and stop and stock up at The Bake Shop. Northwest Leaf recently had an opportunity to ask marketing director JD De La Mora a few questions about the store and his thoughts on the current Initiative 502 market.

How long has The Bake Shop been open?
We’ve been operating as The Bake Shop George since 2018, but our roots in the community go back even further. Before rebranding, we were serving customers under a different name with much of the same staff. That continuity has been a big part of who we are. Our team knows the customers, and the customers know us, so even as we’ve grown, we’ve always stayed local at heart.

What is it like being the closest Cannabis store to the Gorge Amphitheatre?
Being only 15 minutes away from the Gorge Amphitheatre, we get to experience the concert’s energy firsthand. We see visitors not only from all over the country but from all over the world who travel to experience the hidden gem that is the Gorge.

Why is The Bake Shop the preferred local retailer in your area?
Our customers choose us because we take pride in staying current with the industry and carrying the best products Washington has to offer. They trust us to provide the products they want. Putting our customers and their preferences first is why they continue to choose The Bake Shop George.

Where do you see the future of retail Cannabis going?
I believe that the future of I-502 is bright, especially with the recent move to reschedule Cannabis to Schedule III. Rescheduling recognizes the medical benefits that Cannabis has to offer. Even with this change, day to day, we are still dealing with tight margins, heavy taxes and a very competitive market. Rescheduling doesn’t suddenly solve those problems, but it does tell shops like us that the future is going to reward professionalism. The gap between well-run stores and everyone else is about to get a lot wider.
