Shop Review: Birch Bay Budz

'Everyone is excited to be here and happy when they come in and interact with us.'

On the way to the beautiful beach town of Birch Bay, just a few minutes from the Peace Arch border crossing, there is only one place to stop for absolute fire and great customer service: Birch Bay Budz.

This store opened its doors in 2020, one of the most difficult times in current retail history. But owner Eric Chan knew that if he stuck to his high standards, no virus could keep them down. And that tenacity has proven itself, as the dispensary is currently in its sixth year of business.

Store manager Trinity Davies greeted Northwest Leaf with a warm welcome and showed us around the shop. We asked her what it’s like being in such a unique area.

“I feel like 99% of our customers are happy to come in here,” Davies said. “We live in a touristy town where everyone is excited to be here and happy when they come in and interact with us. I don’t feel like we ever have a negative interaction with our customers.”

It was easy for us to see why. The inventory at Birch Bay Budz is absolutely on point and includes everything from the latest hype products to the legendary strains we know and love. The dispensary is located right off Interstate 5 at exit 270, about a five-minute drive from the beach.

Two things you’ll notice when walking in the door are the cleanliness and lighting. This is definitely not one of those dungeon shops we’ve all been to. Displays are organized, clearly labeled and curated for your shopping ease.

Again, the selection is amazing. Coolers and fridges maintain product freshness and are located throughout the store. There’s even an entire commercial freezer dedicated to Skunk Processors, a fellow local production company that produces a popsicle-type product called Nano Chillz, a huge hit during these warmer months.

The crew is super solid. The Leaf had the opportunity to meet a few employees at shift change, and it’s no surprise that locals and travelers alike keep coming back. This team has the accolades to prove it. With over 20 retail shops in the Whatcom County area, Birch Bay Budz won the Cascades Best Gold Best Dispensary award in 2024 and 2025.

So if you are planning a trip to Birch Bay or just passing by, pump the brakes and give this spot a shot at making your day even happier.
