Get ready to be taken on an intergalactic trip around the universe and straight through your nostalgic childhood memories with Big Tom’s marvelous masterpieces … from Simpsons-themed neckwear and smokable pipes to creepy creations, Tom Howell provides artwork and glass pieces that people from every walk of life can enjoy.
Growing up on the East Coast, Big Tom was a ramblin’ man who followed his heart and the Grateful Dead all around the country, traveling from one concert to the next festival. During his journeys, he became fully immersed in the glass scene and fell in love with the energy that this medium holds.
After dealing with some legal issues in 1997, he needed to find a lawfully paying job – which coincidentally ended up being a pipe maker at the world-famous Jerome Baker Designs studio in Eugene, where he excelled at sculpting solid glass.
In 2003, Big Tom once again found himself in trouble during the Operation Pipe Dreams bust, finding himself in a place where he needed to grow and evolve.
“I doubled down and continued blowing glass regardless,” said Howell.
Inspired by cartoons and illustrations as a child, Big Tom has always had a knack for turning his wildest dreams into realities.
“I have always been pretty good at drawing, and as a kid I was obsessed with comic book art. That style of heavy exaggeration still influences my sculptural work today,” said Howell.
