Anticipation makes our mouths water, and we’ve been salivating for a long time over the release of the Pheno Hunts Rosin lineup.
The first time we heard about this project from Cory Zila, owner of the destination Yosemite-adjacent dispensary Tioga Green, we were standing on the tradeshow floor at last year’s MJ BizCon huddled in a flotilla of fellow legacy operators afloat in a sea of green rushers.
“We’re finally doing it,” Zila said, before pulling out a couple of jar samples and logo pics of a new rosin brand called Pheno Hunts. There on the show floor, he explained the philosophy behind the brand, which he started with business partner Will Stolk. Pheno Hunts is a rosin brand crafted for curators and connoisseurs of phenotypical expressions, using strains and flavors hunted from indoor cultivation.
At the moment, it was in the development phase, but now, about nine months later, Pheno Hunts has already sprouted past infancy, with a fully developed line of tasty rosin flavors, flower strains and all-in-one vape carts.
We had the opportunity to sample a couple of varietals from the rosin lineup, and maybe it’s the late-summer sun impacting our tastebuds, but we fell in love with the Tier 1 Nectarine Jelly.
It starts off cold, with a cookie-dough consistency, but warms and whips up into a tasty, terp-laden squish to slide into your rig, gassing into vapor laden with stone fruit and pine character, ripe with hints of confectionery sweetness.
It’s a featherweight, smooth-sipping dab, with energetic effects. A great transitional flavor for the shift into fall.
Zila and the hunting party plan to continue to release small batches of hand-picked flavors as the brand gets rolling — keep your eyes out for the rosin, as well as Pheno Hunts’ flower and vape pens at dispensaries around the state.
