Acapulco Gold

from CannaSol Farms

“There’s gold in them thar hills!"

Grown in the dirt and powered by the sunshine of Eastern Washington, it’s easy to imagine rolling waves of Cannabis plants in the classic phrase “There’s gold in them thar hills!”

Mark Twain’s 1892 novel “The American Claimant” coined the famous phrase, and while Twain was a lover of cats and hash, we know that he wasn’t referring to the delicious amber-gold growing naturally at CannaSol Farms. But we’d like to imagine that if he were still here, he would take a toke of the sunny and delicious Acapulco Gold to get in a creative writing mood.

While Mark Twain might be old school for some readers, the same can be said for this classic strain, which has been circulating in legend and grows for decades. This sativa dominant cultivar is believed to have come from the Acapulco region of Mexico, where the long sunny summers produced the first bumper crops of Cannabis in the ‘60s and ‘70s. Today the strain is just as delicious and relevant, with classic genetics holding up in the new Cannabis world of purpose-bred, indoor Cannabis. There is a beauty to allowing a strain to grow outdoors with the wind, rain and sun, as the elements combine to deliver a rich Cannabis smoking experience that cannot be replicated in an artificial environment.

Opening a jar of chunky nugs releases a wave of warming citrus-honey that washes over the palate, giving stoner senses a strong tingle ahead of an actual toke. The buds have a classic golden brown color with red hairs tucked in next to trichomes that the plant developed naturally to ward off pests – this is the purpose nature gave THC – and what also gets us splendiferously baked. Snapping open a nug reveals a quality cure, sprinkling THC and leaving fingers with a sticky orangey flavor while loading a bowl.

First inhales amplify the sweetness, coating the palate in honey while the smoke oozes in and out with repeated tokes. Extremely smooth and flavorful, it’s like sipping a fresh grown hit of weed, with a perfect earthy aftertaste that smacks the lips as effects rush into the mind. The Acapulco Gold lives up to its sativa legacy, with a high that amplifies higher thinking and makes the mind feel warm and fuzzy, without slowing thoughts. After several bowls, we found ourselves in a happy, energetic and creative mood – perfect for channeling our inner Mark Twain as we work on the first great American weed novel.
