Sun’s out, guns out. Or was that buns out? The latter feels more appropriate for this month’s Strain of the Month, the beefily delicious Hash Burger.

The Santa Cruz-based company prides itself on being an environmentally conscious company, with OCal and Sun+Earth among its growing list of certifications.
In addition to focusing on the plant and planet, Coastal Sun pushes out a tremendous variety of greenhouse and sun-grown genetics. Their strain menu makes a small town dairy freeze’s milkshake flavor menu look short — with more than 120 strains, it’s hard to pick just one winner. Still, this cross of Han Solo Hash Plant x Double Burger was a standout.
The spiced earthy funk of myrcene lays a foundation for the brighter peppery top notes with a hint of fruity sweetness and a healthy splash of fuel. Hash Burger oozes classic character, its profile is reminiscent of something we’d have saved for the head stash a decade ago, or maybe today. It bucks the candy-obsessed trends that fill dispensary shelves all over the U.S.
The overall effect of the dark green, frosty nugs satiates the soul, but this isn’t a strain to bust out at the beginning of the party. Break up these buds at the end of your backyard barbecue with some chill music, as the late evening August sunlight paints the sky with streaks of pink and purple. Savor the last bite of summer, paired with a nice, juicy Hash Burger, before you have to put the buns away for the season.
