In the city of Eugene (which often feels like a galaxy far, far away) sits a flying saucer that will certainly take you higher, but not quite how you’d expect.
Crash landed in the heart of the town, SpaceBuds isn’t just another dispensary — it’s a portal into space and time. Since opening its doors in July 2017, this sci-fi-themed shop has been beaming up a stellar selection for locals and outsiders of all kinds. Stearing this starship is owner Michael (Mike) Green, along with co-captain and manager Abi Lingam. We sat down with them to learn about this cozy, astro-curious establishment.

“We love sci-fi, fantasy, conspiracies, pot smoking, questioning the world,” Mike says with a smile. “I’d rather take a thousand weird people than a thousand drones. We’ve got colorful characters here, but I’ll take that because they’re interesting and they have their own opinions.” Mike’s vision for SpaceBuds goes galaxies beyond just selling Cannabis. He’s shooting for the stars, creating a safe space that embraces open-mindedness, making the dispensary a unique gem in the heart of the Emerald City.
Abi echoes Mike’s sentiments. “We want to be able to give everyone the opportunity to come and shop here,” she states. “It’s always about creating that space where you’re more welcome. And that’s what this town is really great for.”

Another significant aspect of SpaceBuds is the emphasis on consumer education, which is brought to life through its innovative app, The Cannabis Journal. “It’s not a SpaceBuds app, so it’s not just for our clients to use at our dispensary. This is for anybody, anywhere. People are even downloading this across the globe in Germany because it’s designed to help you be a better-informed customer.” Mike explains. More specifically, the app is designed to help Cannabis users track their consumption, effects and purchases more effectively.

Abi shares how it all evolved, “The app came out of this journal book idea that Mike had. Eventually, it became this much more expansive version of the hardcover product. We used to tell people to write down everything they felt about the Cannabis they consumed and rate it. Now, they can do that digitally.”
Scrolling through the app offers layers of personalization in a fun and seamless user interface. Consumers can rate products based on potency, effects and other criteria, tracking everything from flower to extracts and edibles. There are customizable inputs at each step to ensure no turn is left unstoned… or however that saying goes.

“It’s like having a personal diary for Cannabis,” Mike continues. “You can track strains, genetics, terpenes and even share your data with your friends. The app helps you understand what products work best for you, making you a more educated consumer.”
But for those who still prefer the personal touch of human hosts, the smiling staff of SpaceBuds is waiting to warmly welcome and energetically educate in-store.
