Grow Tour: Redbird

“We are able to atomize the water so the smaller-sized water molecules feed the roots more efficiently.”

Redbird is a state-of-the-art high-pressure aeroponic cultivation center approved by the Washington State Department of Health. This team has optimized the ability to keep a perfectly controlled environment, even in the daily high temperatures of Spokane.

The facility is beyond impressive; the level of cleanliness stands out immediately. Organization in this building is apparent everywhere you look. I even had to snap a photo of their pegboards, as they were repeated and evenly distributed throughout all the garden hallways for efficiency.

Operating solely on LEDs, the processes utilized for horticulture at this facility do not rely on soil. From a plant’s careful propagation to harvest, the root zone is misted with a blend of nutrients and water that is purified on-site and pH-controlled. That water is monitored by a complex network to provide the prime blend of oxygen and nutrients that are suited for each strain of Cannabis Redbird brings to life. Due to the readily available uptake provided by the high-pressure aeroponics, every 200 to 300 seconds, the suspended roots are misted for 1 to 2 seconds, depending on various metrics. The difference between this process and the low-pressure aeroponics systems of the past is night and day.

“The old systems were like squirting the roots with a water gun constantly,” Scott Walsh, Redbird processing manager, said. Compare that to the 100 to 120 pounds per square inch they are utilizing at Redbird, and you start to understand this company’s level of optimization. “We are able to atomize the water so the smaller-sized water molecules feed the roots more efficiently,” he said.

Although there is a lot of technology running this facility to maintain efficiency, there is no shortage of boots on the ground. It takes people to manage and observe these systems, and I met some very dedicated team members during my visit. The common denominator I noticed among the crew was pride. Each person seemed to know precisely what they were doing and performed tasks with a smile on their faces.

“Everyone that works here is awesome, and the bosses here are the coolest bosses I’ve had in my life,” Clinton Simpson, a Redbird team member, said.

Redbird has mastered all of this without sacrificing quality. In fact, their product is among the highest rated in the state. Personally, I would say that this growing method results in a more consistent and higher quality level of Cannabis. Although a lot of people say that soil produces the best flavors, I recommend you blind taste test some of your favorite soil-grown flower against Redbird’s amazing flower.

Happy early birthday to Redbird, as November 2025 marks 10 years of sales!
