Budtender Lily K. Baugh is Making Her Grandma Proud

With Cannabis being something of a family business, budtending is a natural fit for Lily K. Baugh.

Her love of music has been an important part of life since the beginning, even jumping into different choirs over the years. In fact, she formerly fronted a band called The Tentacles! In addition, this artist is into theatrical makeup and sewing, showing off her skills with her side hustle Nightshade Artistry – where she does special effects makeup for locally made films and special events.

What did you do before you tended bud?
I got into the industry primarily because it’s always been a part of my life. Both my parents are stoners and my Grammy Debbie is a grower, so it was an obvious choice. And being part of the generation where legal Cannabis takes hold is awesome. Before this I did a lot of restaurant work.

Does your family tell you stories about when it used to be dry at times?
I hear stories all the time from the old heads, but I don’t know if my family knew what it was like because my grandma always had weed available. She’s got a small plot of land and always grew tall plants – some of my earliest memories are running through them. It was a normal part of growing up for me.

What was the reaction at school when you came in smelling like dank bud?
That’s a great question, because I remember being told not to talk about it when I was young. My grandma had gotten busted and I was taken away from my mom when I was about 7 years old, so I knew even before that age that it was taboo.

You’ve got to take an immense amount of pride into your job now knowing you’re representing your grandmother’s passion.
Exactly, it feels like I’m doing right by her because she was always a major activist telling people, ‘It’s medicine, it’s medicine!’ I remember when I was growing up and people were saying she’s just a crazy old lady, and now evidence is proving her right and that’s great to witness.

Do you smoke with Grandma?
Heck yeah, all the time. Most people’s grandma sends them home with a bag of cookies and my grandma sends me home with a couple ounces of weed!

If you could smoke with anybody in history, who would it be?
Jimi Hendrix! He seems like a quiet dude, but when he’s high I’ll bet he’s got a lot of cool things to say. He also comes off as the kind of person who would whip out his guitar and start playing – which would be stellar to say the least.

About Mike Ricker

The first time Ricker smoked weed was at a Santana concert at the age of 12. He then followed in his footsteps as an award-winning radio personality who became notorious for offering a stage for bong toking listeners in 9 different markets over 20 years. In 2016, the Cannabis industry came calling and the rest is history.
