Budtender of the Month: Tina Duangmi

"I need to plant seeds everywhere."

Tina Duangmi is an avid music fan who reads a lot and loves getting outside into the Washington summer air.

What brought you to Danks?
I always wanted to work in the industry. I saw an opening at Dank’s, so I took a shot and it worked out.

What are your goals in life? Do you want to become the world’s greatest budtender one day, or do you have aspirations for growth inside or outside of the Cannabis world?
Essentially, I would like to get into real estate and then transition that into Cannabis. So, maybe I’ll be a real estate broker that represents buyers and sellers who are moving businesses in the Cannabis industry. I’d love to sell someone their first dispensary and then one day potentially be an owner myself.

You’re Laotian, but you grew up in Washington, right?
Yes, I grew up north of Everett, but my family came from Laos.

How do your Laotian parents feel about you working in the Cannabis industry?
My mom is the only one that really knows that I work in the industry. She is very supportive about me working with Cannabis, but she does not support the fact that I smoke weed. On the other hand, my dad does not know I work in the industry at all. Till this day, I haven’t told him I work with Cannabis. My dad is very old school in the way that he thinks, and when Cannabis gets brought up, he automatically thinks about the bad in it rather than the good, which is understandable. Living in a Laotian household comes with high expectations, especially when it comes to how other people perceive us and to the culture, because smoking or doing anything with weed is looked down upon. Working in the industry in a way allows me to help open their minds to a new way of thinking.

Would you want to take Cannabis to Laos?
Yes, I need to plant seeds everywhere. You can’t go through life without having an impact on your culture. It’s a must!

What hobbies are you into?
I’m really into fashion. My boyfriend and I have been designing together for several years now, and the brand is called Love and Fear (@loveandfear.us). I’m pretty much the behind-the-scenes girl.

If you could smoke a joint with any designer, who would it be?
Demna, he designs for Balenciaga, or Nigo, he’s a Japanese designer who makes the clothing brand Bape.
