Well known for his authentic and inspiring passion for the Cannabis industry, Brandon DeCamp is the definition of the word OG. With a strong-willed go-getter attitude, DeCamp has been deeply rooted in the Oregon medical and recreational Cannabis scene for years upon years. He shares his favorite local glass artists and what drives him to be the incredible leader that he is in this month’s Stoner Owner feature!
When did you first know that you wanted to own a dispensary?
As soon as Cannabis was legalized in Colorado and Washington, I knew Oregon was next. I also knew that once it did, I was definitely going to pursue being a part of the industry.
How did you go about establishing Truth Dispensary?
I opened my first dispensary, Herbal Remedies, in 2014 before the state legalized marijuana in 2015. Then three years later, I opened Truth Dispensary with my dad.
How exactly did you get involved with the glass scene? Whose glass art do you hold close to your heart?
When I first started smoking Cannabis, I was fascinated by all the local glass artists in the PNW. Tony Hernandez and Brent 503 are my two hometown favorite artists who specialize in Kleins and Ball rigs.
What are some of the trials and tribulations of being a dispensary owner?
With having a wife and three kids, and one on the way, to me balancing work and home life is one of the hardest things about being a dispensary owner.
How do you balance your family life and business life?
How do I balance it? I’m certainly not perfect, especially since every week can be different, but I strive to make sure the weekends belong to my family – even if that means I have to work 10 to 12 hours during the week.
If you had one piece of advice for a young entrepreneur, what would it be?
Do your research. Start with a plan, set your goals, and don’t get discouraged during the process because it will pay off in the end – especially if you put in the work, day in and day out.
