What’s one of your fondest memories with Cannabis?
I went to the University of Kansas, and I remember being super stoned with my college bestie and another friend from Colorado who had brought White Widow from Denver. I remember being blasted for the first time because of the quality of the strain. Well, we went to Taco Bell and laughed for three hours straight. I still have a difficult time achieving that level of stoniness.

That was a killer strain in its day. What’s one now that gives you the giggles?
Lamb’s Bread. I feel like that’s a hard strain to come by. It’s hard to get the giggles now; sometimes it’s gotta be an edible.
Your showroom is called the Medicine Room. How important is it to impress upon people the link between alternative cannabinoids and wellness?
It’s extremely important, not just at this shop, but everywhere. There are so many contributing factors to the entourage effect that are imperative to our body’s wellness. Our customers here can comfortably get a consultation because most really just want to understand the plant better. 99 High Tide was one of the first boutique shops from the medical days when it was in Venice.
With the singing bowls and the living wall as part of the aesthetic, you feel immersed in the essence of the plant, don’t you think?
Yes, we truly honor the spirit of the medicine here. It’s a very vibrant, connected, and expressive vibe. Cannabis is female, and we want to keep in touch with the magical spirit of the femininity of the plant. This is a spiritual, master healer, and we want people to have a safe space when exploring her benefits.

The Palisades fire happened just over a year ago. How hard has it been to stay afloat?
It’s been extremely hard because we lost half of our customers, many of whom lost their homes. Yvonne and Sam are great friends and owners who showed incredible resilience. We didn’t see most customers for weeks or months. We really had to rally together as a community to survive, but we’re stronger than ever and feel that we’re being divinely protected.
What’s the dopest celebrity encounter you’ve had?
Well, we have a policy about keeping celebrities, identities, confidential, but we have had a few
fellow mermaids drop in. And they love seaweed.
