You previously worked in retail at Nordstrom for ten years. How has your life been since becoming a budtender?
Exponentially better. About three years ago I was sick of selling clothes and my cousin said they had some open interviews, so I applied. Two days later I quit Nordstrom to come work at Ashe Society. And here I am now, California Leaf’s Budtender of the Month! I think it’s safe to say I didn’t find Cannabis, but it found me. I definitely believe that. It has changed my life. I even found my partner in this business, and we have a child together now.
Do you want to make a career out of being a budtender?
I have other interests, but Cannabis is where it’s at. I don’t think any other job or career would have the same vibe as the love and acceptance I feel from the people here. I started out here as a receptionist and now I’m a lead budtender and lead salesperson and I never saw myself there, so the sky’s the limit. I really enjoy this.
How does your family feel about Cannabis?
I have a lot of family members who have used it for battling cancer. My dad struggled through prostate cancer, and I got to witness a change in his demeaner where Cannabis helped him stay positive through his treatment. He would be really down and anxious, then a little smoke would turn his entire day around.
What’s the feeling you get now when you walk into a Nordstrom?
Definitely not the anxious feeling I’d have before clocking in. It’s very prim and proper there. My vibe is evolving past that.
